“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1
Have you noticed the things in life that have real value are things we cannot see, i.e. love, faith, hope, integrity…
Every day, our physical bodies are dying, yet, as a Believer in Jesus Christ, our spiritual bodies are being renewed. The Bible tells us not to focus on things that can be seen. Instead, we are to focus on what cannot be seen for the things we see now will soon be gone, but what cannot be seen will last forever. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
The popular saying, “seeing is believing” only tells a portion of the story in God’s Kingdom. In the physical realm, which is the world we live in, there is a visible reality that we are very familiar with. But then there is the spiritual realm where reality is invisible. Knowledge concerning this realm can only be revealed to us by God. God decides to whom He reveals it, how He reveals it and when He reveals it.
The Bible tells us angels, demons, souls and spirits dwell within this spiritual reality. Some of these beings are scheming, deceiving and fighting while others are singing, praising and rejoicing. There is much to learn about the spiritual realm. We do know, however, that at least some of these spiritual beings are able to manifest and interact with us here on Earth. As you can see, the invisible dimensions of the spiritual realm clearly co-exist with the visible dimensions of our physical realm.
Although humans are physical beings, we also have a spiritual aspect to our bodies. Part of our existence is in the physical while other parts are only accessed spiritually. The Bible tells us we have a physical body which is visible and we have an invisible part as well. The physical part of us and the soulish part of us are both carnal meaning it is controlled by the flesh, its passions and its appetites. The soul is temporal and worldly. It is the soul that allows us to have emotions, intellect, personality and a will. It is also the soul that the angels - Heavenly and evil - contend for in spiritual warfare.
As a Christian, you have an invisible spirit that lives within you that supernaturally enables you to communicate with the Triune Godhead - God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. God has enabled this invisible spirit to perceive and interact with the spiritual realm.
It has been my experience that subjects concerning the supernatural spiritual realm are generally untouched topics for most churches. This may possibly be because people are uncomfortable discussing what they have difficulty explaining or what they think they have not experienced personally. This is exactly why the Church should be having these discussions. The Church should be the most knowledgeable of these subjects.
All churches should have as part of their leadership team the five-fold ministry which consists of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. These offices make available to the Church giftings and anointings that can give insight into the spirit realm.
It is hard to believe that there are Believers who do not take the spiritual realm seriously and choose to avoid subjects that include the supernatural - especially those that include the demonic. This make no sense to me since Jesus' encounters with demons and His accounts of delivering people from demons are mentioned sixty (60) times in the New Testament alone. Even with that, there are still many Christians who believe these subjects to be figments of the imagination.
Spiritual warfare is a major part of a Christian's walk. Not having the knowledge that teaches the people about the spiritual realm, including how to be successful at spiritual warfare, leaves Christians at a disadvantage. It is the responsibility of the Church leadership to teach the Church body how to understand the spirit realm. We are the only ones who have been given true insight through Jesus Christ so that we can bring clarity and understanding to areas where there is confusion. We are the only ones who have been given the power through Jesus Christ to come against the demonic attacks that are keeping our brothers and sisters in Christ in bondage. When we ignore this integral part of our Christian walk, we are doing the Body of Christ a disservice and we are missing powerful opportunities to witness to the world.
Much of our Church leadership is choosing to focus moreso on the intellectual and doctrinal parts of Christianity and are choosing to ignore the spiritual aspect of our faith. When church leaders do this, they will be held to account by our Lord for they are guilty of deficient teaching and are depriving their congregations of the full gospel truth. "You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you." Deuteronomy 4:2
We must fully embrace all aspects of what it means to follow Jesus. We must study, pray and seek God concerning knowledge of His full Word - even the uncomfortable parts - so that we can gain understanding, live it and give it to others.
God has equipped the church with everything, and everyone, we need to be victorious in this Walk. We must not hide it or run from it. If we as followers of Jesus Christ don't learn, live and teach the truth about things concerning the spirit, then who will? I'll tell you who. The world which is under the influence of the enemy will. And they will continue to contaminate the truth.
Jesus gave His followers a charge to "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons." Mathew 10:8. All of these things involve accessing the spirit realm! How can we obey these commands if we are ignorant to the things of the spirit? How can we walk in the full power that Jesus has given us concerning things of the spirit if we don't understand it and teach it to the Body of Christ?
This brings me to the subject of the demonic which I will aptly address in part four of this series.
May God open the ears, eyes and hearts of those who read this word. May He bless you with a supernatural understanding and insight to His Word concerning this supernatural message, in Jesus' name.
