After the Lord led His people across the Jordan river into the promise land, He instructed Joshua to tell them to gather stones from the river and keep them as memorials that would give witness to God and how He delivered them. “When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’ then you shall tell them…” Joshua 4:6-7
Why do we journal? Journaling is a way for us to gather the ‘stones’ that give witness to our testimony, our answered prayers, the promises of God and the divine insight we have received along the way. It is a place to note our struggles, our lessons, our breakthroughs and our successes. It is a place to record the important events in our life that reflect how much God has blessed us and why we give Him all of our honor, praise and gratitude.
Do you know that the Bible we hold today is the result of faithful journals from yesterday? Your journal is a source that can aid in your personal Bible study. It is also a written record that can help us to remember and reflect in our old age. It is a tool to reinforce lessons God has taught us during those times when we need encouragement the most.
God created you for a purpose. Your life is a journey worth noting and a chronicle worth sharing with those who will follow behind you.
“Let this be recorded for future generations, so that a people not yet born will praise the Lord. Tell them the Lord looked down from His Heavenly sanctuary. He looked down to Earth from Heaven.” Psalm 102:18-19
